I can’t do it. I discovered my sports withdrawal isn’t bad enough yet to watch replayed sporting events.
Sportsnet and TSN announced they’ll replay the entire playoff run to the NBA title by the Toronto Raptors in a rare joint agreement between the rival networks.
Will I watch? No. Or at least, not yet.
Maybe it’s because that is so fresh and the memories are there about Kawhi Leonard’s shot against the Philadelphia 76ers or the Raptors’ ability to shut down the Milwaukee Bucks and the injuries to Golden State Warriors stars Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant in the NBA final.
I’d rather watch events that are a lot further back. I find watching the Canada Cup of 1987 far more appealing. Or even the Chicago Bulls’ games from the ’90s with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. The ’92 and ’93 Toronto Blue Jays — yes please!
And if someone would put on the 1972 Summit Series, I’d be all over that. It’s an event I didn’t get to live through but get told you had to be there to believe how important that was.
But the 2019 NBA playoffs? Nah … or should I say: Maybe later. Who knows how bad my sports withdrawal will get.
Heck, it might get so bad I’d watch the 2009 Grey Cup over again.
