Wearing a black t-shirt and sending his family a quick wave from the prisoner’s box, the 14-year-old boy accused of setting fire to the men’s bathroom at the Bay in the Cornwall Centre six times was released on bail with conditions Tuesday morning.
Appearing in Regina Youth Court, the teenager listened as the judge agreed to his bail, jointly agreed upon by the Crown prosecutor and the defence, and listed the boy’s conditions for staying out of remanded custody.
He cannot be named due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
His conditions include a stay-at-home curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.; that he only live at his current address, mandatory fire safety lessons, regular meetings with a youth community worker and that he not enter the Cornwall Centre.
The teenager was arrested last Thursday, after staff at the Bay in the downtown shopping centre reported his alleged behaviour in the bathroom.
Following his arrest, the police investigation led to him being charged in five additional fires in the same bathroom.
He’s to return to Youth Court on Feb. 12 on the six arson charges.
