The NFL’s handling of Vontaze Burfict is exactly how you handle repeat offenders in football in regards to illegal and dangerous hits to the head.
At one point there has to be major consequences and Burfict got hit with a 12-game, season-ending suspension from the NFL for his latest infraction.
Sunday’s hit on Indianapolis tight end Jack Doyle was just as bad as the hit he delivered to Antonio Brown three years ago that got him a three-game suspension.
The CFL should take note. Too often players like Kyries Hebert and now Simoni Lawrence get hit with a fine or a max fine, and the trend continues.
The league finally started hitting Hebert with suspensions and they handed Lawrence a precedent-setting suspension at the start of the year, but they didn’t carry out heavy handedness for his following repeat offenses.
Kudos to the NFL for showing that they will walk the walk in regards to reckless head shots.
