The Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is ready to kick off Friday night in Saskatoon.
The annual festival will go on for 10 days, ending with a Jann Arden concert June 30.
Artistic director Kevin Tobin told 650 CKOM’s Brent Loucks that he’s excited to get the event started.
“We only have so many weekends, so let’s get out there and enjoy them,” Tobin said.
The festival has a lineup of more than 80 musical acts, many of which are local. Tobin said he was glad to offer more than 70 of those shows free of charge.
Acts will perform at multiple venues throughout the city, but the majority of performances will take place at the Delta Bessborough Gardens.
Tobin said he’s happy with the venue.
“Musicians that are touring, they absolutely love the intimacy of the venue, the backdrop of the Bessborough Hotel,” he said.
Major acts at the festival will include Arden, The Roots, Walk Off The Earth, Johnny Reid and more.
