Charges have been laid in what RCMP are calling a “serious domestic assault” investigation that nearly led to an Amber Alert being issued on Sunday.
A 36-year-old is facing six charges that include: aggravated sexual assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats, according to an RCMP media release.
It all started when RCMP received a complaint of a serious assault in Meadow Lake around 12:40 p.m.
The female victim of the assault went to a neighbour’s house to call police, while the suspect left the woman and went to another residence in Meadow Lake, where he allegedly took a three-year-old girl. As police were preparing to issue an Amber Alert, the girl was found unharmed.
The woman remains in hospital with undetermined injuries.
The man appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court Monday morning and will remain in police custody. He is next scheduled to appear in court via video on May 13.
The name of the suspect will not be released due to a publication ban.
