A three-year-old girl is safe and back with her family after she was nearly the subject of an Amber Alert on Sunday evening.
Meadow Lake RCMP were on the verge of issuing the alert when they found her and a vehicle in a rural area eight kilometres south of the city.
Police said she was taken by a 36-year-old man who was arrested at the scene.
According to police, the man was the suspect in what they called a “serious assault” that happened at a home in Meadow Lake at 12:40 p.m.
The man left the alleged victim’s home and went to another, where he took the girl, police said.
“Investigators immediately began an investigation and determined an Amber Alert would be necessary,” read a statement from police.
The victim of the alleged assault — a woman — fled to a neighbour’s home to get help from police and EMS. She was sent to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
