Above-zero temperatures in the forecast could mean trouble for Saskatoon homeowners if they are not careful.
The city is warning snowfall this winter could lead to the potential of property flooding when the temperature rises and melts the snow quickly.
Galen Heinrichs, the water and sewer engineering manager for the City of Saskatoon, provided some helpful flood reduction tips for residents on Wednesday.
He said homeowners should be cognizant that water does not accumulate within six feet of their houses.
“(The important thing is) extending your eavestroughs to make sure water off your roof is getting away and, if you have a sump pump, extending that so it doesn’t drain right next to your basement,” Heinrichs said.
He added one of the best ways to avoid flooding problems this spring is to make sure you clear a path of any debris so water can get from your property to the street.
Heinrichs also reiterated that any residents who have any flooding in their homes or neighbourhoods should contact the city’s Customer Care Centre.
