Having the Regina Lady Cougars and U of S Huskies women’s basketball teams meet in the Canada West Final is nothing new.
These are two elite programs, coached by two of the best. Dave Taylor and national team coach Lisa Thomaidis always have their teams in the thick of it come March.
Friday, the teams will again battle for a Canada West banner at the U of S campus.
This Canada West title game takes on added meaning though. Earlier this week the U of S Huskies athletic department announced that some members of Robyn Silvernagle’s curling team were going to come and hang out at the game.
Saskatchewan’s showing at last month’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts was phenomenal. The fact that Saskatchewan advanced to the 1-2 page playoff game in Nova Scotia with three Scotties rookies has the curling world buzzing.
At first blush this appears to be a women’s basketball game. What this really is, is a chance to celebrate with some of the province’s best athletes and coaches in multiple sports.
