A leaky roof is delaying the hunt for a new tenant at the Farmers’ Market Building in Saskatoon’s River Landing area.
The City of Saskatoon announced Thursday it was cancelling a request for proposals issued in October 2018 for the lease to operate the market building at 414 Avenue B South .
A city media release stated that the request for proposals process brought to light the need for repairs on the roof of the building.
The fixes will require shutting down the building for an estimated three months.
“… the City received two applications and it thanks the parties that submitted a proposal. However, awarding the lease to a tenant, only to close the building for a lengthy period, would be unfair,” wrote a City of Saskatoon spokesperson.
In the meantime, the city has extended the lease of the current tenants.
The Saskatoon Farmers’ Market Cooperative will remain in the building until Dec. 31, 2019. At that point, their lease will end with repairs on the roof to start sometime in early 2020.
