The Chris Jones departure less than a month before free agency leaves Riders President Craig Reynolds in a position where he has to put someone in charge of football operations in short order.
If the General Manager isn’t the coach, than that GM will have to find a coach that the league’s best players will play for.
Fans hate to hear this, but this is a rebuild.
In three years, the man in charge of all things Riders led the team from 5 wins in 2016 to 12 wins in 2018.
Now, a new General Manager will be in charge. The first order of business for that GM will be to find a coach. The next will be to find a quarterback.
It’s not realistic to believe that the Riders can dominate free agency in less than a month, and contend for a Grey Cup in 2019 on the heels of the events of Tuesday.
Like it or not the Rider Nation will have to be patient, even though that’s not what this fan base is best known for.
