Wray Morrison: Our not-so-social society

Before I start, I want to say that I’m not that old cranky guy that hates social media.

Social media is like anything in life. It can be good, but it can also be harmful.

I think about how GoFundMe pages have helped millions of people and how great things like the Ice Bucket Challenge raised lots of money for the fight against ALS a few years ago.

Social media can be productive, but it’s lack of accountability allows some cowards to be abusive in all walks of life, including sports.

Max Comtois from Canada’s national junior team was such a target after Canada’s loss to Switzerland that his agent had to step in and make a statement condemning the abuse the 19-year-old was subjected to.

A member of the B.C. Lions’ staff was suspended by the team for allegedly using a
Twitter account to criticize his former team.

There should be one simple rule: Anything you wouldn’t say to someone in
person shouldn’t be texted, messaged or tweeted.

Those that can’t understand that are holding us all back.
