I was relieved to hear NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly address the NHL’s playoff format this week during a TSN radio interview.
The National Hockey League will have 32 teams when Seattle gets on board and some fans have wondered if the number of playoff-bound teams would expand.
Daly said he didn’t believe a change to the format would “carry with the board.” He added that 16 playoff bound clubs gives the league a “good percentage” of postseason teams.
Playoff hockey effectively starts in March in the NHL. The fight to get in to a wild card spot among teams that are on the outside looking in is always entertaining.
Those battles should be between teams that are close to being in the top half of the conference standings, not between teams that are fighting to get out of the bottom third.
Please! Leave the NHL playoff-bound teams at “sweet 16.”
