8:30 – Environment Minister Dustin Duncan joins the program to discuss Saskatchewan’s proposed climate legislation, introduced this week. The bill amends current climate legislation and lays the groundwork for standards to reduce industrial greenhouse gas emissions. Under the proposed legislation, large emitters would be required to register with the province and could receive credits for reaching targets. Meanwhile, the province’s challenge to the federal carbon tax is making its way through the Court of Appeal. In written arguments filed this week, the federal government says a failure by one province to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will hurt the rest of the country.

10:00 – This week, National Post politics reporter Brian Platt broke the story of former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson’s heavy spending habits. Since leaving office, Clarkson has billed taxpayers for more than $100,000 per year in expenses on top of her hefty government pension. Platt joins John now to discuss the issue and the potential review of these expense accounts by the feds.

11:00 – An accused impaired driver was recently let off by a Saskatoon judge because the police cuffed him “for officer safety” before taking a breath sample. The judge found the man’s rights were violated when he was handcuffed, and chose to throw out the evidence gathered after the violation. Lawyer Mark Brayford joins John to discuss the case, and when a suspect can be restrained without violating their rights.
