Mark Messier is her distant cousin, but this Sask. hockey product is carving her own path.
It my line of work I am expected to opine on the issues in sport.
I start with this disclaimer, because I don’t want to be accused of being a hypocrite.
Never before have we lived in an age where the public can express an opinion to the masses. Social media and 24-hour news and sports channels are part of the reason for this influx of opinion.
I was watching the Stars/Leafs game last night when analyst Greg Millen gave his take on the NHL playoff format. (I’ve never talked to Greg Millen, but I’m a fan of his work.)
His idea was to have the top four teams in each conference choose their opponent for the first round of the playoffs. It’s an out-of-the-box approach to be sure.
Having said that, let’s leave the current bracket format alone for a while. Each team knows what it has to do to get to the playoff tournament at the start of each season.
