A man in northeastern Sask. is facing an attempted murder and several assault charges after an alleged 10 minute crime spree in a small community.
Creighton RCMP said in a media release Thursday the incident happened on June 2 in Denare Beach, located 20 kilometres southwest of Flin Flon on the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border, when a man was in a home around 3 p.m.
He allegedly attacked the homeowner before moving on to a neighbouring residence, where items were stolen.
Police say the man then exited the second home and came across another man on an ATV.
The suspect attempted to steal the vehicle but the driver was able to remove the keys and get to a nearby home, locking the door.
However, the man allegedly broke into the home and assaulted the ATV driver.
A third man arrived in another vehicle to help the victims, but the suspect then allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle as well.
By the time RCMP members from Creighton and Flin Flon arrived on scene, community members were trying to restrain the suspect and he was taken into custody by police.
As a result of the 10-minute rampage three homeowners, the suspect and two RCMP members were taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
The man charged, 27-year-old Josh Paul, is from Flin Flon.
He’s facing one count of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, resisting arrest and several other related charges.
He is due to appear in court in Creighton on June 13.
