    Two people treated for minor injuries

    A busy, crash-filled night for Saskatoon police.

    It started Saturday evening when a car and a bicycle collided at 22nd Street and Avenue G. The cyclist suffered minor injuries, and will likely face charges.

    Then around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, a car rolled on Highway 16 near Boychuk Drive when it was cut off by another car changing lanes. No one was hurt. The driver of the car that switched lanes is charged with driving without due care and attention.

    Young women shed their clothes in public this week to promote vegetarianism

    After a shocking demonstration from animal rights protesters earlier this week, a Saskatoon butcher is speaking out on the benefits of meat.

    Tim Grabowski is with Prairie Meats. He says the slaughtering process is safe and humane.

    "In the country we live in, I believe we have very, very good guidelines that are followed when the livestock is taken to the abattoirs and processing facilities," Grabowski said. "All the animals are treated in a very humane way."

    CP Rail needs road closed to make repairs to rail crossing

    We're starting to see more orange construction signs than street signs out there. And this weekend, you can add another traffic headache to the seemingly never-ending list.

    It turns out Idylwyld Drive in the heart of Saskatoon will be closed to all traffic between 24th and 25th streets on Saturday and Sunday.

    CP Rail will be doing some work on the train tracks there.

    During construction, traffic will be rerouted to Avenue C.

  • Saskatoon teen Amanda Lilliman missing

    15-year-old hasn't been seen since early August

    A 15-year-old Saskatoon girl is missing.

    Amanda Lilliman was last seen at her residence in the 3000 block of 33rd Street West on Aug. 6 at approximately 9:30 p.m.

    She is described as 5'6" tall, 142 lbs, with blue eyes and short brown hair.  She has tattoos on her right hand and on both inner arms.  Lilliman was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black leggings, and a black and grey t-shirt.

    Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Amanda Lilliman is asked to call Saskatoon Police at 975-8300.

  • Sentences handed out to women charged in sex-for-money massage parlour near Saskatoon's City Hospital

    Hong Li and Gui Ping Ly given one year probation, while Yan Ping Zhang yet to enter plea

    Hong Li and Gui Ping Ly were sentenced Friday while a third woman, Yan Ping Zhang, will enter a plea in September after the three women were charged in a relation to a sex-for-money massage parlour across the street from Saskatoon’s City Hospital.

    Hong Li and Gui Ping Ly have both been given one year probation.

    Both also need to work 50 hours of community service and are banned from working as massage therapists unless they acquire a licence.

  • Former Nipawin resident Laurier Chabot guilty of tax evasion

    Businessman resold fur coats on eBay

    A former Nipawin e-businessman has pleaded guilty to tax evasion.

    Laurier Chabot, who now lives in B.C., admits to dodging taxes seven years ago and has been fined $68,000.

    The Canada Revenue Agency says Chabot bought and resold used fur coats on eBay, raking in over $250,000 in sales, many international.

    In addition to the court fines, Chabot must also pay any outstanding taxes, penalties and interest.

  • Cross towers 176 feet above cathedral in northeast Saskatoon

    White cross moved into place Thursday as construction continues

    There's a new feature to Saskatoon's skyline. A towering white cross now stands atop the Catholic Cathedral and Pastoral Centre that's under construction in the northeast part of the city at Attridge Drive and Nelson Road.

    Church member Jim Nakoneshny was one of several spectators who watched as it was put into place late Thursday afternoon.

    "Outside of downtown, there's not a lot of large buildings," he said. "And especially for the church, it's a landmark for people to see, just as a reminder as they're driving by."

  • New firefighters hired in Saskatoon for Rosewood fire station

    Veterans will join new hires at station in southeast Saskatoon

    Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services announced the hiring of 23 new firefighters on Thursday to help staff the fire station in Rosewood, a new development in the southeast corner of the city.

    Assistant Fire Chief Dan Paulsen says the move is needed to reduce response times.

    Houses in Saskatoon span further and further from the city core which means many new homes on the outskirts are miles away from a fire station.
