    Early morning assault leaves 19 year old in hospital

    A 19 year old man is recovering in a Saskatoon hospital from serious, but non life-threatening injuries, after he was beaten by a group of thugs behind the Centre Mall on 8th street early this morning.

    Police say he was assaulted around 3am.  He made his way to a nearby home where the call to police was made.

  • Saskatoon Humboldt MP Angered by Morgentaler Appointment

    Saskatchewan residents also unhappy

    Saskatoon-Humboldt MP Brad Trost is not at all happy with the decision to appoint abortion rights activist Doctor Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada.

    Trost says the decision should be something that is unifying, not divisive.   

    Trost maintains the nine member committee has historically chosen people for this honour by a unanimous vote through consensus. He says though, this time it looks like it was a simple majority that pushed it through, although he admits they are still investigating that.

  • High Drivers Forced To Submit To Tests

    Now they really have something to be paranoid about

    Effective today, police have a new tool to make our roads safer.

    A new law requires people to perform sobriety tests if they are suspected of being high on drugs while behind the wheel. Drivers who refuse will be subject to a $1,000 fine, the same penalty for refusing a breathalyzer.

    RCMP Sgt. Carole Raymond says from Regina, that the U.S. has had this law for many years.  She says it's a great next step in efforts to keep our roads safe.

    Also today, the minimum fines for impaired drivers goes up from $600 to $1,000.

  • Three Saskatchewan Residents Named To Order Of Canada

    Names overshadowed by Morgantaler

    Metis Author and elder Maria Campbell is one of three Saskatchewan people named to the Order of canada yesterday.  Campbell may be best known for her first book, "Halfbreed" which continues to be taught in schools today.  She is being honoured for "her contributions to Canadian literature and media as a writer, playwright, filmmaker and educator, as well as for her advocacy of Métis and Aboriginal issues."

  • Northern Saskatchewan Is Burning

    Fire crews brought in from other provinces to help out

    About 400 firefighters and crews from Manitoba, Ontario and the Northwest Territories have flown in to help fight three fires threatening communities in Saskatchewan.

    Over a thousand people are now evacuated from their homes in Stony Rapids, Black Lake, Uranium City and Deschambeault Lake.

    Many evacuees from Black Lake are staying at the University of Saskatchewan.  Others have been evacuated to the SIAST campus in Prince Albert.

    Those who are at risk in Pelican Narrows could be the next to be forced from their homes.

    131 people have now been forced from their homes in Black Lake Saskatchewan

     Wild fires have now forced evacuations in Black Lake.  It's located due north of Saskatoon, just east of Lake Athabasca.

  • Stabbing in Saskatoon

    Women stabbed twice Monday night

     Saskatoon Police says a woman was stabbed at the 200 block of Avenue B south.  It happened just after 10:00pm.  She was rushed to hospital with non life threatening injuries.  The suspect was apprehended by a Good Samaritan, but he got away.  Police are looking for a lone male suspect.

     It was a rather stormy farewell for the month of June for people in Saskatoon.

    Thunder, Lightening and heavy rains poured down late Monday night.  22nd street and Avenue W was a lake.
