Saskatchewan RCMP said on Friday that several people were in custody in relation to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Deschambault Lake.
RCMP said in a news release on Aug. 8 that the shooting happened this morning but police are “unable to publicly identify or provide further details” about the dead person.

No police officers were injured, RCMP said, and Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is now investigating the shooting.
SIRT is a civilian-led, independent body that investigates incidents where a person has died or suffered serious injury arising from the actions of on and off-duty police officers, or while in the custody of police, as well as allegations of sexual assault or interpersonal violence involving police.
Final reports into SIRT investigations are issued to the public within 90 days of the investigation ending.
RCMP added that the general investigation section of the Prince Albert detachment is looking into the initial call for service to Deschambault Lake RCMP.
As the investigation continues there will be an increased police presence near Oskatuc Avenue in Deschambault Lake, RCMP said, adding that people should avoid the areas where officers are present and follow any police directions.
Saskatchewan RCMP said it would “have to be mindful of the integrity of SIRT’s investigation,” but would provide further information as they were able and notify the public if an imminent risk to public safety was identified.
