Mounties in Saskatchewan say the case of a missing teen girl has not been forgotten, even 50 years later.
Irene Scherban was 16 years old when she went missing. She was last seen early in the morning of August 2, 1975 outside her family’s home in Hudson Bay.
Police said her disappearance was suspicious in nature, and said the RCMP Historical Case Unit is still following up on information received from the public in relation to the case.

“This case is not forgotten. Even after 50 years, we remain committed to seeking the truth,” corporal Tanya Gordon, an investigator with the Historical Case Unit, said in a statement.
“We will continue to investigate Irene’s disappearance with the hope of uncovering answers and providing her family with the closure they deserve.”
The RCMP renewed their call for information on the 50th anniversary of Scherban’s disappearance, asking for tips to be sent to police or submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
“It has been 50 years since Irene disappeared, and our family is still waiting for answers,” Briane Jennifer Webb, Scherban’s niece, said in a statement.
“Our Baba passed away two years ago, still holding on to the hope that her daughter would come home”
Webb said Scherban’s family will lay a marker in her memory, reading “May she find peace here between the parents who never gave up hope of her return.”
“We place it not because we have closure, but because we carry that love and longing forward,” Webb said.
“After all these years, we still believe someone out there knows something. If you do, please come forward — so Irene’s story can finally be complete, and our family can find the peace we’ve been searching for.”
