Roughriders set to announce $2.1-million profit at AGM

According to a document on the Saskatchewan Roughriders website, the CFL club will announce a profit this year.

The document, titled 2025 Shareholder Annual Report Snapshot, says the team will announce a $2.1-million profit from the 2024-25 season. A big part of that was an increase in the club’s total revenues to $40.8 million last season — a 15 per cent increase from the previous season.

It also says that the Riders were “buoyed by strong on-field performance including a home playoff game and strong merchandise sales,” and the club “recognized an EBIDA (earnings before interest, depreciation and amortization) of $4.7 million, and a net operating profit of $2.1 million.”

The Riders’ new obsidian green jerseys helped the club out on the merchandise side of the business, with an increase of $2.4 million from last season.

A full breakdown of the team’s financials will be provided to its members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday.

After missing the playoffs for two straight years, last year’s financials saw the team announce a $1.1-million loss at the AGM.

Under Corey Mace in 2024, the Riders were able to post a 9-8-1 record and hosted the CFL West semifinal. The Riders beat the B.C. Lions in that game and advanced to the CFL West Final, where the season came to an end at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Mace, offensive lineman Logan Ferland and defensive back Rolan Milligan Jr. represented Saskatchewan and the West Division at the 2024 CFL Awards, with Milligan Jr. taking home the trophy for Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

Long-snapper Jorgen Hus took home the Roughriders’ third straight Jake Gaudaur Veteran’s Award. It is given to the Canadian player who best represents the attributes of Canadian veterans. The Riders are the only team to have a player win this award in consecutive years.

Saskatchewan had eight players named as an divisional All-CFLer (formerly known as all-stars), including quarterback Trevor Harris, receiver Samuel Emilus, Ferland, defensive tackle Micah Johnson, linebacker Jameer Thurman, linebacker C.J. Reavis, cornerback Marcus Sayles, and Milligan was recognized twice — as a halfback and on special teams.

Five of those players — Ferland, Johnson, Reavis, Milligan and Sayles — were named to the league all-CFL list.

The Riders also provided support to minor football throughout the province as the club donated $1.8 million to amateur football thanks to the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation.

Saskatchewan is out to a 3-0 start to begin the 2025 season after beating the Toronto Argonauts on Friday.
