For the second consecutive year, the Florida Panthers have ripped the hearts out of the Edmonton Oilers and remain Stanley Cup champions.
After winning in a classic seven-game series last year, the Panthers were able to defend the crown and beat the Oilers in Game 6 on Tuesday night to claim Lord Stanley’s mug once again.
Florida forward Sam Reinhart scored four goals in the game — two of them empty-netters — to win the game.
Matthew Tkachuk scored the other goal for the Panthers in the contest.
Vasily Podkolzin potted the only Oilers goal of the game but that came with under five minutes to go in the showdown.
Florida won the series with a 4-2 margin, winning in games two, three, five, and six.
The win by the Panthers marks the fourth time in six seasons that a team from the state of Florida has won the Stanley Cup.
Montreal remains the last Canadian team to win the cup with the Canadiens winning in 1993.
More to come…
