A 52-year-old North Battleford man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting and injuring a police officer during his arrest on Wednesday.
According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, officers stopped a vehicle in North Battleford at around 7:30 p.m. after spotting a passenger who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

As the officers approached the vehicle, the driver got out and “confronted” them, the RCMP said.
The man got back in his vehicle when he was ordered to do so, the RCMP said, but officers spotted “illicit marijuana and unstampted tobacco in plain view in the vehicle” and told the man he was under arrest.
“He resisted and assaulted the arresting officer. A struggle ensued. The adult male was then handcuffed and taken into custody,” the RCMP said in a statement issued on Friday.
“The officer was treated at the hospital and released. They are receiving ongoing treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening.”
The 52-year-old man is now facing charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. He’s expected to appear in a North Battleford courtroom on June 23.
