A 28-year-old man is facing assault charges after allegedly threatening staff at a business with a baseball bat on Tuesday.
According to police, officers were called to the business on Eighth Street East just before 6 p.m.

“Upon arrival, they located a man matching the suspect description, carrying a stolen baseball bat, a short distance away,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement. “When police approached the man, he waved the bat in a threatening manner.”
The man eventually dropped the bat, police said, but resisted arrest and was taken into custody after “a brief struggle with officers.”
He’s now facing charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a dangerous weapon, theft, mischief and resisting arrest.
Man injured in hit-and-run crash on 24th Street
Police said a man was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning after a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of 24th Street East and First Avenue North.
“A male has been transported to hospital; the extent of his injuries are not known at this time,” the police service said.
Police did not say if the victim was a pedestrian or inside a vehicle at the time of the crash, but asked anyone with information on the hit and run to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
The traffic restrictions put in place after the crash were lifted shortly after noon.
Man charged in connection with April 10 stabbing
A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing that sent a man to hospital last month.
According to police, officers were called to a home on Avenue N South at around 8 p.m. on April 10 where they found the 26-year-old victim suffering from a stab wound and other injuries.
“Upon preliminary investigation, officer learned the victim had returned to the residence after being assaulted by four males in the alley behind a business in the 1500 block of 20th Street West,” police said in a statement.
“Through investigation, the (Saskatoon Police Service’s) Serious Assault Unit identified and charged a 31-year-old man with Aggravated Assault,” the police service said in an update issued on Wednesday morning.
Two arrested after gunshot in apartment hallway
Two people are facing 12 gun charges after a firearm was allegedly discharged in the hallway of a Saskatoon apartment building in March.
Police were called to the building on 11th Street West just before 4 a.m. on March 28.
“Upon arrival, police located evidence that a firearm had been discharged in a hallway,” the police service said in a statement. “No one is reported to have been injured as a result.”
Police said an investigation by the Gangs & Guns Unit led to the arrests.
Man turns himself in after stabbing in March
A 22-year-old man who’s facing charges in connection with a stabbing in March turned himself in to police.
According to police, officers were called to an apartment building on Queen Street on the afternoon of March 27 after getting a report about a stabbing.
“Through further investigation, it was determined the victim had suffered a stab wound while inside a vehicle that was driving on Queen Street,” the police service explained in a statement.
“The victim then exited the vehicle and went to an apartment building in the 300 block of Queen Street where police were called.”
Police asked the public to keep an eye out for a dark-coloured sedan, and the vehicle was located and seized on April 30.
The suspect later turned himself in to police, and is now facing charges of aggravated assault and breaching court-imposed conditions. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants.
The 52-year-old man who was stabbed remains in hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Man arrested with imitation gun, expandable baton
A 19-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly pointing a fake gun before fleeing into an apartment building on Fourth Avenue North.
Police responded at around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
“Responding officers located the suspect in a suite and seized an imitation firearm and an expandable baton,” the police service said.
“A 19-year-old male is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Possession of Firearm, and breach of court-imposed conditions.”
