Regina’s police chief has been temporarily removed from active service while the Public Complaints Commission conducts an investigation.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Regina Board of Police Commissioners said a community member has filed a complaint against Police Chief Farooq Sheikh, and he has been sidelined “in order to ensure the integrity and independence of the investigation.”

Details of the complaint itself were not shared.
While the commission conducts its investigation, Deputy Chief Lorilee Davies will serve as acting police chief in the Queen City, the board added.

“No further comment will be made on this matter while the investigation is ongoing,” Yashu Bither, who chairs the Regina Board of Police Commissioners, said in a statement.
“The Board of Police Commissioners will be notified once the PCC has completed its investigation, and the public will be updated accordingly.”
Sheikh was hired by the police service in 2023 to take over from outgoing chief Evan Bray and serve as Regina’s 15th police chief. His first day on the job was December 1, 2023.
Before working in Regina, he served with the Alberta Sheriff’s Service and previously worked with the London Metropolitan Police and West Midlands Police in the United Kingdom, as well as the Calgary and Central Saanich police services.
