Youth facing weapons charge after bear spray threat at Regina schools

A youth has been charged with possession of a weapon after a complaint about bear spray prompted a lockdown at Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School and restrictions at four other Regina schools on Friday.

Regina Police Service (RPS) said in a news release on Sept. 21 that three youths had been arrested but only one was charged after a report around 1:10 pm on Friday that two students were being chased by two or three people who were threatening to assault them with bear spray.

The caller told police the suspects were in the area of Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School, and that they may have entered the school, which is why it was put into lockdown.

Balfour Collegiate, St. Augustine School, St. Faustina School and Thompson School all secured their buildings while officers were searching for the suspects.

The schools were cleared after several hours.

The youth charged is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 31.
