Borden, Saskatchewan’s Savannah Sutherland has the opportunity to win an Olympic medal in Paris today.
The 21-year-old will race in the 400-metre hurdles final at 1:25 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
Sutherland qualified for the final with a time of 53.80 and will be placed in lane three for this evening’s event.
Sutherland is currently a student at the University of Michigan and is one of the top track and field athletes in the NCAA. She is ranked 29th in the world — which is the lowest ranking of the competitors in the 400-metre hurdle final.

If she wants to win a medal today, Sutherland will likely have to run a time in the 52-second range. Her personal best run came this season with a time of 53.26.
To celebrate Sutherland’s achievement, the community of Borden is holding a watch party at their community centre.
Doors for the watch party open at 12 p.m. and there will be burgers and drinks provided by the RM and cooked by the Firefighters.
