A former Maple Creek teacher has been charged with another count of sexual assault.
Dester Bacsu was previously facing three charges of sexual assault. The first two alleged assaults involved male youths during sport-related trips in the early 2000s, but the RCMP didn’t specify when the third alleged assault happened.
According to the RCMP, police received a report about “an additional historical sexual assault” on July 21 last year. Bacsu was re-arrested on March 21, charged with the additional counts of sexual assault and sexual interference, and appeared in court on Thursday, the RCMP said.
“Investigators continue to believe there may be other victims,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“If you are a survivor of sexual assault, or if you have information about a crime of sexual nature that may assist in an ongoing investigation, please contact Maple Creek RCMP at 306-662-5550.”
Because of the potential that there may be other victims in the case, the Mounties previously released some details of Bacsu’s employment history.
“Dexter Bacsu was a long-time teacher in Maple Creek schools and continued to work as a substitute teacher until recently. Chinook School Division has advised he is no longer an employee,” the Mounties said in their first release about the alleged assaults.
“Dexter Bacsu volunteers in local youth sports and music programming, including as a coach and trip chaperone.”
