A 24-year-old woman who was on remand at the Pine Grove Correctional Centre has died.
Late Thursday afternoon, she was found unresponsive in a living unit at the institution in Prince Albert.
Corrections staff initiated lifesaving measures and called paramedics, who transported her to the Victoria Hospital. She was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The Prince Albert Police Service and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been notified and are investigating. The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety will also be conducting an internal investigation.
According to a government media release, foul play is not suspected at this time. Next of kin have been notified.
The woman’s name has not been released.
