The Regina Police Service is investigating a fatal police shooting in Saskatoon Thursday evening.
Police were called at 5:45 p.m. about reports of a male firing a gun inside a residence in the 1300 block of Avenue E North, across from Mayfair elementary school.
According to a release, arriving patrol officers and members from the tactical support unit heard gun shots and blocked off the area around Avenue E and 35th Street.
Police said the fatal shooting occurred sometime after officers entered the multi-unit residence and were confronted by the armed suspect.
No residents or officers were injured during the incident.
In an effort to ensure greater independence in investigations into police-involved incidents, the Saskatoon Police Service immediately requested the investigation be led by Regina police and assisted by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) along with two independent observers.
