For the second time in as many weeks, samples of wastewater taken from Saskatoon and North Battleford have shown a decline in the amount of COVID-19.
The latest information released by the University of Saskatchewan’s Wastewater Surveillance Program shows the amount of viral load in Saskatoon’s wastewater fell by 14.9 per cent compared to last week’s report. North Battleford’s wastewater showed a 59.8 per cent decline.
According to the surveillance team, both may be indicative of a decrease in COVID infections that may or may not be reflected by case numbers in the next few weeks.
In Prince Albert, however, the amount of COVID-19 increased by 288.5 per cent from last week.
According to the surveillance team, treatment plant operators say the average daily flows in the past two weeks have been about 25 per cent greater than normal because of spring meltwater.
In all three cities, the Omicron BA.2 variant has become the dominant virus.
