The Battlefords RCMP has launched a murder investigation after a 21-year-old man from the Red Pheasant Cree Nation was shot to death on the First Nation early Sunday.
The Mounties said they responded to a gun call at about 3 a.m., and found the man dead on a road. The man’s family has been notified, but the RCMP didn’t release his name.
Police said there was “a verbal altercation” at a house and the man was shot after he left.
The RCMP said there will be an increased police presence on the First Nation — which is located about 30 kilometres south of North Battleford — as the Major Crimes Unit investigates.
Anyone with information is asked to call their local detachment at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
