A number of things were stolen from a SaskPower vehicle in Saskatoon on Monday that the Crown corporation says could allow someone to impersonate one of its employees.
SaskPower said Wednesday a hard hat, an orange vest, a clipboard, a jacket, personal protective equipment and business cards were among the items taken from the vehicle during the break-in.
As a result, the company wants to make sure no one is taken in by a scam.
“SaskPower will never go door-to-door demanding payment, asking for personal information, or entrance to a customer’s home,” the company said in a media release. “The person could be quite convincing if he/she wears all of the gear, has business cards and so on. We want to stop this as quickly as possible.”
SaskPower says anyone who is approached by a person looking to be one of its employees who asks for payment and/or personal information should ask to see the person’s official SaskPower ID and then contact SaskPower customer service immediately.
The customer service representative will be able to tell the customer if the interaction was legitimate. If a customer gives the individual any money, credit card information or personal information, they should call their local law enforcement agency to report it.
