The Western Canadian Crop Production Show is expected to continue as scheduled next week, despite rising cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in Saskatchewan.
Lori Cates with the Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation confirmed the show’s current plan in an email.
“The show is going forward as planned because we have not been mandated by either Public Health or the Government of Saskatchewan to suspend or alter gatherings,” Cates said in the email.
The event is slated to run from Monday through Thursday at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon.
On Thursday, Saskatchewan reported the highest number of cases in a single day so far, at 913. Chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab also recommended that no gatherings take place indoors aside from essential activities like work or school, including no gathering with any individuals outside of a person’s household.
There are currently no official gathering limits in place in Saskatchewan.
According to the show’s website, COVID-19 protocols will be followed, including proof of full vaccination or an approved negative COVID test required for entry.
The show will “operate under all current and applicable Public Health Orders in the Province of Saskatchewan,” its website says. That includes the requirement of face masks to be worn at all times at the show, aside from when eating or drinking.
Hand sanitizing stations will be “abundantly available throughout the venue,” according to the website.
