Greyhound Canada will not be expanding service in light of the closure of the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC).
In a written statement the national bus company confirmed it will continue operations along the Trans-Canada and Yellowhead highways in the province.
“We are currently evaluating, not only our operations, but the 174 communities that STC served,” Greyhound stated. “However, at this time, we have no immediate plans to pick up any additional routes, nor have we been contacted by any other service provider.”
The current Greyhound contract in Saskatchewan expires in September. Greyhound buses in and out of Saskatoon and Regina will continue to be housed at the old STC depots until then.
The STC assets are being wound down from now until March 2018, which may include the sale of those depots.
Red Arrow, a bus company out of Alberta, has not responded to a request for comment on whether it is looking at any STC routes.
The Highway Traffic Board is currently holding public hearings for the applicants looking to provide passenger bus service in Saskatchewan.
