After 12-years at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo, “Malcolm” the cougar has passed away.
According to a news release, in early March, care staff noticed Malcolm was having trouble walking and jumping. After examining him, they found arthritis in his joints and started treating him with medication.
This week, however, his health took a turn for the worse and he was humanely euthanized.
Zoo manager Jeff Mitchell said Malcolm was “An amazing ambassador for his species.
“In his 12 years at the zoo, many people had the opportunity to learn more about cougars and we know everyone who had a chance to see him, cared about him as much as we did.”
Cougars generally live between nine and 13 years.
