A Saskatoon softball legend is being honoured Wednesday night in front of family, friends and the local softball community.
Gordon Howe Fastball Field is being renamed Joe Gallagher Field.
“You go from pride to humble, to all kinds of emotions,” His daughter Wendy Gallagher said. “I’m going to tear up because it’s so amazing to see my father honoured in the sport he loved so much.”
Gallagher passed away in March 2016 after being involved in the softball community for over 50 years, as both a player and coach.
“I don’t know my life without ball in it,” Wendy said. “Mom and Dad met at the ballpark, we were at the ballpark seven days a week, it was his life.”
In 1964, Gallager helped raise funds to equip Gordie Howe fastball field.
The Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association said it’s being renamed because Gallagher helped shape local softball history in Saskatoon.
