It wasn’t always easy, but he did it.
Frank Atchison celebrated turning 95 years old while completing his almost 300-kilometre walk from Saskatoon to Regina on Tuesday.
Atchison had been walking from Saskatoon since April 15 to raise money for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and the Shriner’s Hospital in Montreal.
“I appreciate the donations that we got along the way,” Atchison said. “I was surprised with the number of folks I ran into that went through our hospital.
“We are the grandfathers looking after sick children. We have done it for 100 years and I hope we continue.”
There will be a special parade for Atchison Tuesday on starting at 2 p.m. from the Conexus Arts Centre.
It will finish at the Legislative building at 3 p.m. and a ceremony followed by speeches will take place shortly after.
The total sum of money raised by Atchison will be announced sometime on Tuesday.
More to come.
