The Green Zone’s Glen Suitor has properly pointed out, on more than one occasion, that CFL officiating can be better. I agree.
That’s why I was encouraged to read a Postmedia report Tuesday saying the CFL and the NFL will, in all likelihood, take part in another joint-league officiating program.
Last year, for the first time, some CFL referees attended NFL officiating seminars and worked some exhibition games down south. Some NFL officials worked CFL preseason games last June.
With video review systems always changing in both leagues, examining how to get calls right and maintain game flow is important.
Officiating in the CFL is not inferior to the NFL. There are correct calls and incorrect calls in each league. Both the CFL and NFL will benefit from sharing ideas on how to uphold the rules. Good ideas on how to make the game better can come from either side of the border.
