The Saskatoon SPCA has so many cats looking for homes – there’s no more room at the shelter.
The SPCA announced Friday it’s at capacity for cats and has put a temporary hold on accepting felines surrendered by owners.
“Transferring out cats isn’t an option for us right now since so many of our neighbouring communities are facing a similar cat over-population problem,” said Cathy Brin, public relations co-ordinator.
Owners who need to surrender their cats can be placed on a waitlist by calling the shelter at 306-374-7387.
They will be contacted for intake of their pet as space becomes available.
Currently, any cat six months and older can be adopted with a donation, while the price for kittens has been reduced from $190 to $150.
The shelter is promoting its CATada 150 adoption event, in an effort to rehome 150 cats by July 31.
So far, 62 cats have found homes and the SPCA is hopeful they will reach their goal within the next few weeks.
