A child pornography investigation in Saskatoon has led to international arrests.
Police reported that they began investigating 27-year-old Philip Michael Chicoine in early February, based on activity on a social media account he operated.
Members of the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit searched a home in Saskatoon Thursday and arrested Chicoine.
Police said evidence seized during the search showed that, along with videos, Chicoine was providing others with access to live-streamed child pornography from Romania and the Philippines.
Female suspects alleged to have been aiding Chicoine in Romania have also been arrested, according to an ICE unit media release issued Friday afternoon. The release stated that authorities in the Philippines are investigating.
Chicoine faces a total of 19 charges, including counts of possessing, making and distributing child pornography, as well as luring and agreeing to commit a sexual offence against a child.
He made his first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court Friday morning. He’s due back in court for a bail hearing on March 13.
