Regina will be getting its first legal micro-cannabis grower by the end of October.
VIGR Life Cannabis (VLC) received their micro cultivation license from Health Canada, which allows them to grow marijuana in the city.
The new facility located just outside downtown Regina will feature two micro cultivation systems.
Rick Turchet, the president of VLC, is excited about what the future of cannabis looks like in Saskatchewan.
“We are creating some jobs during some very difficult times,” Turchet said. “We are creating jobs during some very difficult times. We are excited to be in the Regina and Saskatchewan economy, the center of agriculture in Canada. We look forward to growing cannabis in Saskatchewan.”
VLC has partnered with Delta 9 Cannabis, a company out of Manitoba, to distribute pot to stores throughout the country in the near future.
“We had COVID-19 working against us in starting up, (but) we were able to get through that and a tremendous amount of challenges. We ended up getting licensed in record time … We were able to get licensed in 90 days. That’s a testament to our application and how focused we are,” he said.
“There are a lot of opportunities, and our master grower has a passion for growing cannabis. There is a lot of excitement surrounding getting into something relatively new.”
Turchet expects the Canadian marijuana market to be worth over $5 billion by 2025.
