Jamie Nye: 'The game in its purest form' doesn't sell anymore

The New York Knicks tried something different on Sunday.        

And by different, they jumped in the Delorean and went back a few decades and didn’t play in-game music or video so the fans could enjoy the game in its purest form.

Some applauded the move, thinking that the sport itself should be enough for the fans.

Some, like Draymond Green, who was playing in the game, thought it was the dumbest idea on earth. Green thought it took the energy out of the game.

In fact, you’d think they put peach baskets up and had to poke the ball out of the bottom with a stick.

But it highlighted how much sports entertainment has changed. It wasn’t that long ago there were no in-stadium highlights and videos. All you had were mascots, cheer teams and the game.

We still showed up. We still had a good time.

However, the purists aren’t going to win this one. The in-stadium experience has to be superior to the show people get on television.

And in fact, if I knew a team was going to do what the Knicks did in the first half of Sunday’s game, I’d be staying home.
