Fire crews continued Friday morning watching over a fire at a salvage yard north of Saskatoon along Highway 12.
Departments from Saskatoon and Martensville were called just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday to the yard co-owned by Affiliated Auto Wrecking and BN Metal.
When crews arrived, a large pile of combustible materials including shingles and wood was burning sending plumes of smoke into the sky. Smoke continued to linger Friday morning
Fire still burning this morning at Affiliated Auto/BN Metal drop off along Hwy 12. Lots of acrid, black smoke in the area blowing south east. Fire crews from Dalmeny and Martensville (there may be others too) are still here. @CKOMNews #yxe pic.twitter.com/IX31VumWGv

Martensville Deputy Fire Chief Dean Brooman says it began as a controlled burn that quickly got out of control.
“We are in communication with the Ministry of Environment and proceeding with plans as to how we are going to fight the fire today.”
Brooman said there’s a good perimeter around the blaze, and it’s been split apart, so nothing else should catch fire.
