Scottish pride was on full display in downtown Saskatoon this weekend.
More than 100 people wore traditional kilts and hit the ice for a skate at the rink beside the Delta Bessborough on Saturday.
“It’s such a fun event to celebrate Scottish culture,” said organizer Jill Sauter.
This year’s event saw a boost from the good weather. A high of 2.5 C helped more than double last year’s attendance of 30 people.
Now in its third year, the annual kilt skate takes place in several Canadian cities including Winnipeg, Ottawa and Montreal.
“We were excited to again participate in the Kilt Skate events to celebrate both Sir John A’s 202nd and Canada’s 150th birthdays,” Sauter said.
Skaters also enjoyed the sounds of bagpipes and drums played by a band on skates.
The event helped kick off PotashCorp’s WinterShines Festival, which runs Jan. 28 to Feb. 5.
