The PGA Tour Canada will not be stopping in Saskatoon this June after the Dakota Dunes Open lost its title sponsor.
A spokesperson with PGA Tour Canada told 650 CKOM Tuesday they were unable to secure a new sponsorship deal in time to keep the Saskatoon date on the schedule in 2017.
“The reality is, that Saskatoon has been a really strong community for us. We’ve enjoyed being there. Both the corporate and charitable support has been really strong and we hope we have an opportunity to return there,” said Brian Decker, with the Mackenzie Tour.
Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) said after sponsoring the event for the last nine years, the organization felt it was time to move on to funding other priorities in the community.
“We really enjoyed our time. “We’d only done one other event for that long of a period and that was the Enchanted Forest which we did for 10 (years),” said Vance McNab, SIGA’s vice president of marketing.
The professional men’s golf tour will still have 12 stops. The 2017 schedule is expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
