The pelicans have returned to Saskatoon, but they certainly took their time this year.
The Meewasin Valley Authority (MVA) said the first pelican to land between the weir and the CPR Bridge was observed on Monday, April 20 at 4:36 p.m.
That’s the latest arrival ever recorded since the orange-billed birds became a regular sight on the riverbank. The MVA has kept track of the birds’ arrival for the past 21 years.
The MVA said the winners of its annual Pelican Watch contest will be announced soon.
