The Saskatoon Community Foundation (SCF) is putting over half-a-million dollars towards combating the COVID-19 crisis.
Included in the funding is a $160,000 contribution from SCF to the COVID-19 Community Response Fund. The remaining $340,000 will be redirected from various grants and disbursed among charities that are coping with the crisis.
“Our Board of Directors and Community members on our Granting Committee fast-tracked decisions and removed all barriers to ensure we can get money out swiftly to where it is needed most,” said SCF Executive Director, Carm Michalenko, in a release.
“We are dealing with people’s lives, so time is of the essence.”
The SCF identified five agencies that they believe are key delivery services to support the Saskatoon COVID-19 Community Response. Those agencies include Reconciliation Saskatoon, Global Gathering Place, CHEP Good Food, Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Services and Saskatoon Friendship Inn. Each has received between $10,000 and $20,000, totalling $75,000.
According to the release, applications for funds from an additional $200,000 are open until April 27 and will be disbursed in early May.
Finally, $68,000 dollars from Youth Endowment Saskatoon will be “redirected immediately to support the needs of youth affected by the pandemic,”
SCF calls on other private foundations, philanthropists, service organizations and members of the public to also contribute to the Community Response Fund
