The body of Saskatchewan Roughrider Joe McKnight is being removed from the funeral home so the coroner can do more forensic tests.
WWL-TV in Louisiana reported McKnight’s mother authorized the release of his body, but was distraught the first tests weren’t enough to conclude what happened.
A source told the local news station that McKnight’s family also ordered an independent autopsy for his body, but the results have not come back yet.
McKnight was shot and killed on Dec. 1, 2017, in what has been described as an incident of road rage.
Ronald Gasser, the 54-year-old Louisiana man who fatally shot McKnight, was arrested for manslaughter.
