Two people in their late 20s are facing charges after a shoplifting incident turned near violent at the Mayfair Safeway Saturday evening.
In a media release, Saskatoon police said they were called to the business in the 300 block of 22nd Street West for a shoplifting complaint.
When they arrived, they learned that when a loss prevention officer had stopped a man and a woman for stealing, the man took out a hatchet before they both ran off.
The loss prevention officer wasn’t hurt, police said.
The pair was a later arrested and charged.
A 28-year-old man from Alberta was charged with theft under $5,000, assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public.
A 27-year-old woman, who’s also from Alberta, was charged with theft under $5,000.
