Ahead of Remembrance Day, Legion Branch #63 is hoping to locate the rightful owner of a collection of war memorabilia.
The frame includes five service medals, photos, poppies and other pieces that belonged to a man named S.W. Clark.
It was found at a pawn shop by people that want to stay anonymous, according to former branch president John Davidson.
“They didn’t believe it should be left in the pawnshop for someone to buy and then, of course, take the medals out,” he told Saskatchewan Afternoon host David Kirton.
Inspecting the items revealed some information about the man who received the medals.
“He signed up 12 days after they started taking volunteers–it speaks to his character,” Davidson said.
He doesn’t believe that Clark’s family intended for the memorabilia to end up in a pawnshop.
“This gentleman received the 1939-45 star, the French and Germany star, the defence medal, the Canadian volunteer service medal and clasp for overseas service and the war medal for 1939 to 1945,” Davidson said.
He explains they just want to find the right home for these medals and S.W. Clark’s legacy.
